The African continent and its people are in a process of rediscovery and re-awakening, leveraging the strengths and values of its philosophies and richness of its culture. Concurrent with this collective awareness, a need for African-centred psychology that responds relevantly to the need of African communities has grown exponentially. In this respect professional psychologists needs to reconfigure psychology, and their role to reflect the realities of Africa and proactively engage in policy development on issues related to their expertise as well as foster their identity as a distinct profession that can make a unique contribution to psychological challenges and national crises facing our country

This intervention entails developing a strong theoretical and conceptual framework or model of African-centred psychology and establishing national and international collaborative alliances on issues of common professional interests.
